Last weekend of the 2019-2020 season was slightly different to normal and we all know why!!!
Usually, we would hold a Ladies Day to raise funds for a local charity however this year we had to adapt and inspired by all the fantastic community spirit at the moment the Wasps joined in.
Club volunteers, coaches and players over Sat 25th and Sun 26th April used their 1 hour of exercise a day and within social distancing to be out in the community doing a good deed. As you will see from the list below there was a fantastic range of good deeds done and a good range of ages showing the depth of our great club.
U11’s player Samson Scales completed a litter pick in his neighbourhood.
2nd team coach Ryan Whelan completed gardening for a neighbour.
Good work from Ethan (U14) and Jamie (u12) Black helping in a neighbours garden and doing daily dog walks ??
A community offer came in from the David’s on Mayo Street. Looking awesome in their club attire they posed for a photo promoting walkers to pick up pre planted small trees/plants to plant along their walk.
U12 Player Cole Burgess cleared up his communal green
U16 Player Frazer Murray cut his neighbours grass
Coach Chris Wright tidied up under the old railway bridge on the river Cocker where lots of litter had spoiled the river walk
Senior squad player “Cav” and son Louis had a busy afternoon doing some communal painting. #teamwork
On the Sunday which is usually a busy morning at the club, members were back out again using their 1 hour exercise, wearing gloves and abiding by social distance, including
U11s coach Brian Golightly and son George litter picking along a favourite walkway
2nd team captain Charlie Poate and son Sam who is with our u6s litter picking in the park. Sam has since asked Charlie to do this regularly, good work Sam.
1st team player James Sewell cut grass for neighbours

Alfie Bundock from the u11s delivers a newspaper to an elderly neighbour. A job he’s been doing each day.
The Jary girls and Jacob from our u8s have been tree planting
Bobby (u11s) and Molly Bell made sure the rugby pitch at Broughton was in good order.
Brogan Thompson (U11s) did a great litter pick and Alex from the U8s is planning to do a half marathon in his back garden next sat for Hospice for Home.
Henry from the Us did a litter pick on his way to his Great Granny's house where he talks to her from the front garden on the phone.
To conclude our community deed weekend club captain Sam Wilson has been busy (behind every good player is a girlfriend/boyfriend, wife or husband) making cookies and delivering notes to neighbours.
If we can help our community further in the future please let us know, as a club the support we get from the community is a huge part of our going success. We look forward to 2020-2021 season and hope to see you up at our Strawberry Howe Ground on a Saturday to support the Senior sides and/or on a Sunday morning to support the mini/midi/Juniors.
