Maddog at the club

The kids of Cockermouth RUFC wasps had the best time on Sunday when retired England rugby player Lewis 'Maddog' Moody came to visit, after the club won a competition at the start of the season.

The day started with a bit of a warm up for each of the age groups whilst Lewis interviewed our fabulous Club President Steve Stainton and then club secretary Sandra Stainton (who we all have to thank for her sterling work in getting everyone registered at the start of season and therefore the prize of Lewis visiting!).

Next up was a photo of everyone with Lewis and an introduction to the day.
Lewis then made his way around each of the age groups, spending some time talking with the players and getting involved in a bit of coaching and joining in with some training, which the kids (and Lewis) loved!

After this there was a bit of a break whilst Lewis and the coaching staff had some refreshments (thanks to the lovely ladies staffing the kitchen).

Next up was a Q&A session in the full bar area (ably managed by Colin) where Lewis entertained us all with some anecdotes from his playing days and answering questions varying from his thoughts on the new tackle height, to whether he had ever worn a hairband during a match!

The day then came to a close with Lewis taking time to have some photos taken with the kids and signing lots of shirts and rugby balls.

Everyone had a brilliant day and were motivated in their future playing careers.

Thanks to all the volunteers who helped to arrange and manage the day

Lots of fab photos (taken by Vince) available in the website photo album
