Mini tournament

Ospreys u12's travelled to Penrith to take on a Penrith A and B side along with Wigton in a mini 4 game tournament. Having only taken 12 lads, the boys were in for non-stop action having no subs, whilst the other teams had an abundance.

Game 1 v Penrith A was a cracker with a quick fire try from a good tackle and jackle at the ruck from Cole Burgess to collect and dummy over in the corner. The game then didn’t go quite to plan, with a tussle between the forwards with Nathan Rickerby and Will Jack leading the way with some tasty hits down the middle. 2nd try came with a delightful yet creative kick from our own half from Olly Green - putting in the hands of our speedy winger Micah Weightman to go over again in the corner.

Game 2 v Penrith B was much like the first game - an evenly matched game with both sets of forwards going at each other. A superb solo effort from Alfie Wright breaking the deadlock. Another superb kick from Olly Green saw Micah go over again in the corner. Scoring our third try was another solo effort, Sonny who has just recently switched games from football to rugby and his smile said it all. Excellent game management from Dan Foy in at 9 in both games so far - yet to see his out and out speed, we’re in for a treat when he opens up ! Josh Wilson after excellent game on the wing, went over for a well worked try, only for our own ref not to give it - in a contengious decision for knock on...downward pressure ref! ;-)

Game 3 v Wigton, our local rivals, always give us a tough game and today was no different - from back to back games and no subs, slight fatigue was starting to show but that didn’t stop the resilience and tenacity of this Ospreys team. Olly Danby and Alex making big yards down the middle and our rucking with patience finally starting to show with a hit for hit first 5 mins, the deadlock was once again broken this time by a fleet footed Jamie Black showing good footwork. Excellent display from Alfie Wright again this time in defence with some great tackles but Wigton built something great pressure hitting back through Alfie Warwick. The lads worked hard and reset going again with a try for Olly Green coming on the 10 min mark. Leading 2-1 we thought the game was won, but it wasn’t to be - tired legs and boys. Excellent work from Wigton and credit to their lads they scored a lovely team try to end the game 2-2.

From the start to the end there was flashes of excellence throughout the team and glimpses of the future. Let’s hope future Wasps and more come from this bunch of lads!!

Congratulations to Alfie Wright on his Man of the Match award.
