Cockermouth u17s represent town well at Silloth

Really good day at Whitehaven Rufc loads of games for the u7s and u8s leaning all the time. Again all smiles is what rugby at this age is all about ????. Again thanks to our sponsors Neil @ NWB Consultants Ltd IFA and Insurance Brokers . And Trevor at T J Dixon Exterior cleaning. Coach Clopper

Under 12s attended the NewcastleFalcons festival today and played some good stuff at times, we came away with 3 wins and 1 draw ? . Great to go undefeated on the day ??. Coach Campbell

Another performance full of character today for the u15 Ospreys. We rocked up with 14 players and Penrith loaned us one. Playing on the AGP, we looked to play quickly on a huge field - ‘speed over shape’.
We were quicker in attack and solid in defence. Penrith continue on their improvement arc and played some good stuff, very organised.
We suffered an injury so credit to Penrith for the loan of another player, this affected our game plan, but not the result, we snuck over the line at the end for a very hard fought, intelligent victory.
Well done to all who made the journey and I hope all the lads carrying injuries heal swift and strong. Coach Black.

Cumbria u17 colts final
It would be the team that got going first that would win this one and Penrith got out the blocks well, orchestrated by their impressive 10. Penrith were held up over the line and camped on the Wasps try line after 5mins. After a Penalty kick to the corner, Penrith pack were stoped by strong defence but when recycled the Penrith 10 used a good step to score. 0-7. They were soon back at it and on 10mins a line break looked dangerous from Penrith but solid defence from full back Thomas Nixon stopped this and a good turnover was gained. Unfortunately Wasps couldn’t get in to the game and we’re turning over possession frequently, a second lost lineout, on 12mins resulted in the Penrith pack crashing over for a try. Cockermouth finally found some phases and after a number of good plays had Penrith on the back foot but a serious Injury stopped play and we wish a speedy recovery to the Penrith player. From the Scrum restart Penrith turned over the ball but Wasps soon regained possession and unfortunately missed a clear overlap on the right edge. Instead the forwards took extra carries in the middle of the field and the much needed points were missed.

The 2nd half was much more evenly matched, Cockermouth enjoying more possession of the ball and Penrith playing an excellent counter attack game. Both teams were defending very well and discipline good around the tackle height.

Unfortunately Wasps were still losing the ball in contact too much, on 60mins a great line break was made from Thomas Nixon but the offload to the supporting and hard working Lewis Bancroft was dropped. At this point the Wasps pack had really stepped up their scrummage and were unlucky not to get more for their efforts. Prop Harry, flanker Bancroft and No 8 Finley Reed were now in the Cockermouth attack much more but the killer blow came when another turn over occurred and swift Penrith hands to the winger, who executed a very good kick chase and regained the ball. A few phases later and the follow up forwards crashed over to confirm the win. The Cockermouth lads didn’t let this get their heads down, rallied again and to their credit finished the game on a high when the lively Finton Hedley finished a very good set move try running a brilliant line. Penrith 21 - Cockermouth 5.

Despite the Colts not winning the final against Penrith at Silloth today. The team played well and represented the club and the town superbly. Well done lads!! Committee member Vince Brand

Millom 22 - Cockermouth 22

Unfortunately not much of a report from Senior rugby who had a very tough game on the road. Wasps having to play a number of forwards in the backs were not able to play a more expansive game as they would have liked. A penalty kick was unfortunately not converted to give them the win but well done to Millom on a great performance.
