Junior Wasps are out and about and seniors win at home

Weekly Round Up
U14s
A depleted Cockermouth u14s got up early and travelled over to Tynedale to test themselves against strong opposition. Injuries and unavailability meant a team of 13 made the trip. Tynedale kindly leant us players to make it a 15 a side game. Tynedale starting quickly pinning Cockermouth in their own 22 scoring tries outwide. Tynedale used off loading, quick passing and the identification and communication of over laps to attack spaces. Something we can learn from. As the half went on Cockermouth settled and last ditch defence stopped Tynedale scoring. They then created their own try when Cam put Ed into space down the blindside.
Cockermouth gained confidence and started to pressurise Tynedale into handling errors. In the second half Ed scored another fine try, rounding the defence, after a strong run and offload from Robbie. Cam kicking the conversion. The game became close when Cockermouth scored again. This time Harry touching down when he supported Robbie after a blockbusting run outwide. Tynedale were reduced to 14 men after a clumsy tackle on a player on the ground. As Cockermouth tired Tynedale scored tries from lineout mauls and quick runs from penalties. The player numbers were evened up at the end when Cam went off for lifting a player above the horizontal.
Final score Tynedale won 32-17.
Not the result we wanted but a good bounce back after our mauling at Gateshead.
Thanks to Tynedale for their hospitality and the spirit the game was played in.

Craig Muller (On Tap plumbing), kindly donated after game awards for players.
Todays player of the match chosen by Tynedale coaches was Leo. He played at full back and scrum half distributing into space.
Honourable mentions to Ed, Robbie Jayden and Cam.
I tried to take one for the team and chose myself as Donkey of the day for arranging an away game at Tynedale on the Sunday the clocks go forward (something to learn from). But Cam seemed keen to take it for his dismissal.
An honourable mention went to Jayden who finished a great move off a lineout and burst into space with a pass straight to a Tynedale player.

U15s

The Ospreys also travelled to Tynedale and as this age group like to do they played in a game using a very new method of identifying teams.

As Wigton were also in attendance it was decided to make 2 squads from the 3 teams involved and see how the players responded to new team mates etc. With players wearing their own shirts, one squad was therefore asked to wear headbands. How did the referee cope?
However amongst the chaos the players si adapted and showed some fine play, thought quickly on their feet, solved some difficult problems and no doubt this will have been a good developmental opportunity for them.

Girls Rugby

Having had little practice together over the last month and having not practiced at all, with our partners, workington, its not surprising that we were well beaten by a much older Egremont team. However our combined side never gave up and tackled hard until the end. Egremonts rucking and driving into the tackle were a little stronger than ours giving them a good platform for scoring. It was great to see: new recruit, Jessica, have a run out, especially as she has only been playing a month or so , and to see Ruby score a superb solo try. Well done to cockermouths year 6 girls who played their part in scoring 4 tries today as opposed to only 1, the last team we played the same team, which looked mostly like year 7s.

Senior Rugby
Cockermouth 19 - Whitehaven 0
Summary comes from loyal supporter Howard Lee

Last home game of season ended with a scrappy, wet & very muddy 19-0 win against Whitehaven!
Promotion sorted with some great rugby played throughout the season
Well played fellas and good luck for next season ? ???????

This Saturday see’s the unfortunate double header scenario where the final league game of the season has to be played away at Upper Eden and the decision makers have also made it the 1st round tie of the Papa Johns National cup. I am sure both teams were hoping to use the opportunity to play new clubs and test themselves further afield.
