On a blustery but dry spring morning......

Cockermouth u13s hosted teams from Carlisle, Kendal and Percy Park. They played three 20 minute games each. All were competitive games played in good spirit. Each team presented different challenges, Carlisle had strong ball carriers and rucking. Kendal had a strong scrum, off loaded in attack and worked hard in defence. Percy Park had excellent ball handling and kicking skills; looking to move the ball to the edges.
Cockermouth’s play developed as the games progressed. The body position and aggression at the breakdown improved, players in possession were looking for support for off loads and passes.
The work rate, tackling and determination in defence was excellent all the way through.
This meant they managed to complete all three games without conceding a try. Something the lads were determined to do, and took personal pride in.
Positive points- the club volunteers, parents and other age group coaches working together to ensure 80+ players had a morning’s rugby and a sociable meal with friends.
The improvement from new players to Cockermouth rugby club (Luke, Finley, Fletch, Jayden, Clyde & Leo) as they become part of the team.
Positive feedback from visiting coaches.
Areas to work on- getting some depth into our attack.
Quicker decision making at the breakdown.
Special thanks to Kathryn and Steve Reid (Who is really flourishing in his refereeing role). Cheers Brian
