No Orrell, no problem, as Wigton step in for Saturday's game

With intended league opponents Orrell unable to make the trip up from Lancashire this Saturday, Wasps will take on Wigton RUFC in a friendly for the first leg of the Mike Firby Cup.

Usually taking place over the Christmas period between Workington and Cockermouth the cup has been in storage during Covid and will be played over two legs (this Saturday @ Grasmoor and Easter Saturday at Wigton RUFC). Mike who has referred the game for over 40 years was keen to give something back to the sport in West Cumbria, introducing the cup back in 2018.

Ahead of the match, first team captain Mark Watson was in confident mood saying 'We were really looking forward to this weekend’s game versus Orrell. It was going to be the first opportunity for the boys to get the double over a team this season, but unfortunately the Lancaster outfit are unable to field a side. Thankfully Wigton have agreed to give us a game on Saturday, so we're all looking forward to a good old Cumbrian derby!
The lads trained really well on Wednesday night, with a very high skill set and intensity - perfect to go into a game with, which is great
'.

Wasps will put out a mixed squad of first and second team players and are grateful to Wigton for agreeing to the fixture at short notice. Kick off is at 2pm with the bar open from 1.

As ever it's fantastic to have local businesses on board supporting the club. This weeks sponsors are -
